Italia

Buongiorno (good day) from Italy. This week was spent visiting the NAC and exploring more of Italy. Monday started by watching a movie in Italian class followed by Search for Happiness. We learned last minute that our Scavi tour would be that afternoon followed by NAC sports day on Tuesday. After lunch at Il Pozzo, we hopped on the bus to St. Peter’s for our Scavi tour. The Scavi is the excavation site under the Vatican where St Peter is buried. After our Scavi tour we head back to campus on the bus and get ready for our dinner at Gustos. We are able to catch up with the chaplaincy program about our fall break adventures before going back to campus and getting ready for bed.

On Tuesday we have history class at the wall of Rome. It is a short class, and we spend more time on the bus getting there then we do onsite. We head back to campus and get ready for sports day at the NAC. We play volleyball as a group and then split up for other sports. We enjoy some ice cream before heading back to campus. On a typical Tuesday we would head to Abbey Theater for tacos but most of us stay back to study for our art history midterm. Wednesday morning is our art history midterm. That afternoon we head back to the NAC this time for convivium. We enjoy the view from the roof and a wonderful gumbo dinner made by Father Seth. Thursday is a typical day of class and prep for my upcoming weekend trip.

On Saturday my group wakes up early to get to the train station to head to Venice. We arrive in a city just outside of Venice proper and grab lunch at a local restaurant and head to our air bnb to check in. We then head into the city of canals. We explore for a while walking the streets and hop on a gondola before supper. We eat at a local restaurant right next to the canals and head back to our air bnb. The next morning we get up early and head back to the train station to go explore Padua, where one of my travel mates confirmation saint is from. We then get another train to Milan. Due to them working on the track we have to get off in a small town and transfer to a new station on a bus. We arrive in Milan around 2:30 and start exploring. We visit the fashion area and many different churches. We grab McDonalds for the train ride back to Venice and buy our train tickets. Boarding the train, we notice that our train tickets are first class and we now have an entire small room to ourselves. We enjoy our dinner of McDonalds and play some card games on the way back to Venice. We head to our Air bnb and go to sleep. The next morning we wake up and take the train back to Rome. We get back to campus around 2 and spend the rest of the day prepping for the upcoming week.
