Buongiorno (good day) from Italy. This week was a typical week in Rome with a trip to Assisi, Italy with the Chaplaincy program. Monday was a typical day of classes, but we switched it up by having class in the lounge as the projector was being worked on in the classroom. We had lunch together at Il Pozzo and dinner at Gustos. After dinner we had a student life program. On Tuesday we had an early afternoon class at a local monastery. We got there early and played some Uno on the ground. After class a small group of us walked around town looking at tourist shops. We got gelato and sat in Piazza Navona for a while before heading to Abbey Theater for taco Tuesday. We were joined by one of the seminarians who said he knew we’d be there because of the rain.

Wednesday was art history class at the Pantheon. We also revisited some of the churches we had seen at the start of the semester this time talking about the art inside. We went back to campus and had pizza for lunch. Did chores and some homework before Convivium. Thursday was a typical day in the classroom. Ate leftovers for lunch and worked on some homework. A small group of us went into town for sushi for dinner.

On Friday our RD made breakfast before our trip. We got on the bus around 11:30 and headed on our way to Assisi. We stopped at a gas station along the road for lunch and enjoyed the views. We arrived in Assisi and explored the lower part of town stopping at the Basilica of Santa Maria of the Angels. We then headed up the mountain to the main city to check into our hotel. We had dinner at the hotel and then walked up to a castle for conversation and hot chocolate.

Saturday was a rainy day while we explored the city. We visited a bunch of churches in the upper city and had lunch at the hotel. After lunch we visited a few more churches and the constant rain stopped long enough for us to have our sunset apertivi in the piazza of Santa Chiara. We then headed to a local leather shop that the university visits every year and bought some handmade leather goods. We had dinner at the hotel and enjoyed good conversation before heading to bed.

On Sunday we had breakfast and headed out on a hike to St Francis’ hermitage. We took our time and enjoyed the views before touring the area. We walked down the mountain and had lunch at the hotel. We then headed to mass at a local church. After mass we headed back to Rome on the bus. When we arrived in Rome, we had pizza for dinner before prepping for the upcoming week.

Ciao, Ann
